As a researcher and writer, my work focuses on culture-embedded indigenous healing practices, cultural and transcultural psychotherapy, and the revitalization of African healing practices and ancestral wisdom. I am interested in developing research-based and innovative frameworks for the assessment of cultural worldviews, values, and belief systems in clinical practice.
The combination of indigenous healing and transcultural psychotherapy requires conceptual definitions, theoretical developments, and methodological orientations. It is with this in mind that I am currently developing an assessment framework for complex clinical constructs (AF3C) and an African classification of mental disorders (ACMD). AF3C will enable clinicians to assess complex/nuanced, culturally effective, and comprehensive therapeutic interventions.
An indigenous-relevant psychotherapy requires conceptual definition, theoretical development, and methodological orientation. It is with this in mind that I research a model that will do justice to the often ignored African indigenous practices.
